Power factor  for large generating station is normally range between 0.8 to 0.9 some time is lower than the required power factor and other time is higher. It is generally desirable to take special steps to improve the power factor. This can be achieved through using the following equipment

• Static capacitors.

•  Synchronous condenser.

•  Phase advancers.
