INTRODUCTION TO BIOGAS
Biogas technology is
the transformation of organic materials through anaerobic digestion process
under controlled conditions of temperature, pH, C/N ratio etc, to obtain a
combustible gas, called biogas and a value-added fertilizer (sludge). Biogas
usually contains from 45 to 70% Methane and from 30 to 45 % Carbon dioxide.
Anaerobic digestion is the degradation of
organic wastes through microbial actions in the absence of oxygen to produce
reducing gases (biogas) which mainly composed of methane, carbon dioxide and
contains trace components which is hydrogen sulfide, acids and thiols.
Degradation rate depends at large on feedstock type, hydraulic retention time
(HRT) and process temperature.
